Countries in the MENA region are going through immense changes. Some resource-rich nations are attempting to diversify their economies beyond the oil industry, and others are trying to find ways to restructure their economies and encourage job growth to meet the needs of a young workforce.
ITIC acted as the catalyst in organizing the first MENA Tax Forum in 2010 in Doha, Qatar - the first event of its kind in the region. Subsequent annual meetings hosted by Ministries of Finance of Turkey (2011) and Oman (2012) established the Forum as the leading international gathering of senior government officials in tax policy and administration from the MENA region, academic and industry experts, and representatives from international organizations. The Middle East/North Africa Tax Forum brings together these leaders, in a collaborative and neutral setting, to discuss solutions to common challenges and to share best practices in taxation.
ITIC's Senior Advisor for the MENA region is Mr. Hafiz Choudhury.
"The ITIC meetings provide a place for my colleagues to sit with the IOCs to clearly understand how contract regimes work in other countries."
"As Libya looks to reform its policies to make it more competitive, it's important that we understand best practices in the region and around the world. We want to thank ITIC for this workshop to help bring us this knowledge."
