As a nonprofit research and education organization, training and developing future leaders in economics and public policy is an important part of ITIC’s mission. We are proud to announce our 2023 class of interns, a diverse group joining ITIC from universities across the US, Canada and Europe.

Safa Basravi is a rising senior at UC Berkeley majoring in Political Economy with a concentration in international development and trade and minoring in Global Poverty and Practice. Her academic interests include the development of post-colonial South Asian banking and finance and Eurasian supply chains, focusing on utilizing the power of data to study and measure the impact of alternative, participatory economic development methods.


Tudor Boanda grew up in Romania and is now studying Political Science and Economics at the City University of New York. Tudor is interested in researching geopolitics, electoral politics, populism, and great power competition. While interning for the International Tax and Investment Center, Tudor expanded his knowledge of energy policies, Eurasian geopolitics, and the global supply chain. He hopes to use build on this experience by getting a Master’s degree in International Economy.


Jonny Halow is a senior at Loyola Marymount University from Houston, Texas. He is studying political science, history, and philosophy and is interested in geopolitics, great power politics, and American domestic politics. After University, Jonny plans to either work in public policy or study law.


Ru Jia is a Master's student at the University of Chicago studying Public Policy with a concentration in data analysis and research methodology. After obtaining her B.S. from UC Berkeley, she developed a strong interest in global development issues, particularly issues pertaining to poverty alleviation, inequality, and access to basic services such as healthcare and education. She hopes to continue her work related to social and economic policy in developing and underdeveloped countries in the future.


Grigory Menshikov is a rising junior at George Washington University studying International Affairs and Political Science with a minor in Economics. Before his new role at ITIC, he interned in the U.S. Congress. Grigory’s academic interests include regional policy issues in Europe and Eurasia, energy resources, nuclear energy, non-proliferation, and political psychology. After graduation, he wants to join the U.S. Foreign Service or enroll in law school. Grigory speaks fluent Russian and conversational Spanish.


Izabella Ozello was born in Brazil but also has Portuguese ties. She holds a B.A. in International Relations: Politics and History from Jacobs University Bremen in Germany and is pursuing an L.L.M in Public International Law at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. Her interests are history, international resource politics, and security studies.


Banoth Hari Chandra Prasad, a Masters student in International Affairs with a focus on Global Economic Affairs at Boston University. His deep interest in the intersection of policy, economics, and international affairs motivates him to consistently deepen his understanding of these complex domains. His current position in ITIC allows him to learn from industry leaders while also contributing meaningfully to the organization's mission.


Emmanuel Adu Sarfo was born in Ghana. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and is currently pursuing a master's in Economics and Economic Policy at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow. His research is focused on political economy, comparative development, and the energy sector. He plans to pursue an academic career in economics.


Riddah Shaikh is a second year at American University in Washington DC, pursuing degrees in International Relations and Environmental Studies. Outside of her work interning for ITIC she is also pursuing scientific research on the pollutants produced from volcanic eruptions as well as social research on climate policy in New Zealand. She plans to attend Law School to pursue a career in Environmental Law.


Gabor Swistak was born in Poland and moved to the US at a young age. He is currently in his second year at the University of Edinburgh studying Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. His main interests are international trade and monetary policy. In the future, he plans to work on economic policy or law.


Ali Su and is originally from Turkey and is now a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in Economics and Political Science. Besides his roles as a data science fellow at the UNC data warehouse, and an intern at ITIC-EGS, he also rows for the UNC Men's Crew and enjoys trying out different nature sports in his free time. After graduation, he endeavors to work in the field of finance, and preferably keep options open for graduate school later in life.


Liam Taylor will graduate with an MA in international affairs from George Washington University in May 2023. Prior to GW, he earned his BA at the University of Oregon and completed courses in conflict studies at Queen’s University Belfast. He plans to begin a career in international law after earning his degree.


Courtney Weigel has completed a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration with a specialization in Global Policy from Northwestern University (USA). She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, German, and Russian from the University of Michigan. Specializing in Russia, Central Asia, Germany, and the Caucasus, she was a part of the Michigan Foreign Policy Council, a former intern at the Institute for the Study of War, and worked under Congressman Peter Roskam, a prominent figure in US-Georgia relations. She has several published papers, including “Who Will Putin Invade Next: An Analysis of Future Russian Endeavors."
